Valve for Irrigation
A valve is a device used for the regulation and control of the flow of water. A valve can be opened, closed and fairly closed or opened to control the flow of water.
A valve is one of the main components of a typical drip irrigation system. Valves are used in all types of irrigation systems. They are also used in plumbing work.
Valves can also be used to regulate the pressure of water flow. Valves do not work for the control of water flow alone, they can also be used to regulate and control gaseous substances.

Applications of Valves in Irrigation
The following are some of the applications of valves in irrigation:
Regulation of water flow
One of the main roles of valves in irrigation is the regulation of the flow of water. A valve can be used to block the flow of water to an irrigation zone on a farmland.
A valve can also be used to stop water flow on a drip tape. Valves can also be used to increase or decrease the water pressure and flow in an irrigation system.
In a drip irrigation system, valves are mainly used to control water flow. Valves can be installed at the connecting point of drip tapes to the sub-main line in order to control the flow of water.
Regulation of fertilizer and chemical injection
Valves are often attached to fertilizer injectors like venturi injectors when injecting soluble fertilizers and chemicals to the irrigation system
A valve can be used to increase or decrease the speed at which a venturi injector injects soluble fertilizers or chemicals into the irrigation lines or pipes.
Prevention of back flow of water
Some types of valves called backflow preventer prevent the back flow of water to the source of water.
IN the case of injecting chemicals and fertilizers into the irrigation lines, backflow preventing valves should be used to prevent the back flow of water and chemicals to the source of water.
Backflow of chemicals into the source of water can be harmful to lives depending on the water.
Types of valves used in irrigation systems
The following are the types of valves used in irrigation systems:
- Hydraulic valves
- Pneumatic valves
- Manual valves
- Solenoid valves
- Motor valves
Components of valves
The following are the components of a typical valve:
Body
The casing covering the valve is called the body of the valve. The body covers the other parts of the valves.
The body of valves is mostly made of metal or plastic.
Bonnet
The bonnet of the valve covers the body of the valve.
Handle
The handle of the valve is also called the actuator. The handle is used to open or close the valve.
Other components of a valve are disc, seat, port, valve ball, trim and spring etc.
